Closing time to 17" MacBook Pro

Apple gives us a truly mouthwatering recipe of their new 17 inch MacBook Pro coming soon. As soon as the end of January actually. From an invasion of cutting prices and adding features netbooks, we are now given a notebook with a long list of features, big screen and a price tag that is even bigger. In some way the new MacBook Pro smacks of an upmarket business class sedan – knows its job, but is overpriced as a rule. However we get enough specs for the MSRP which is 2799 USD for American market. Nevertheless 17" MacBook Pro is not quite a bargain I should say.For 2799 USD 17" MacBook Pro offers more than only technical implementation. It is also a stylish gadget – it is thinner than an inch and I thing good looking. But style is not what you want from a notebook. So, in standard, upcoming MacBook Pro will carry an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6 MB shared L2 cache and 2.66 GHz but 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo will also be available. Clearly a 17 inch 1920 x 1200 LED display. It supposed to have 60 percent greater color gamut and 700:1 contrast ratio, but I am not the only one who though of an OLED display for that kind of money. Anyway, for 50 extra USD you can get an anti-glare display. Graphic cards, yes there are two of them, one – integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and the other one – discrete NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB GDDR3.There is a lot more stacked in MacBook Pro like different ports and slots and 4GB SDRAM, 320 GB HDD or optional SDDs, Multi-Touch trackpad, etc. but Apple wants end users to know a lot about MacBook's battery. They say it is a new one, offers 8 hours of work between recharges and toughs out 1000 recharging cycles, which is really a lot. There is an issue however. The thing is that you can't replace it by yourself once it arrives to its dead point. The owner of 17 inch MacBook Pro has to be responsible enough to understand that Apple has to recycle used batteries and install you another one for 179 USD (includes recycling). That is a disappointment I recon. I mean – yes, new rules for consumers can be taken in order to prevent further pollution. But from the user's point of view, who had to pay almost 3000 USD for MacBook Pro and then he appears to take it to service as a car once again? I am afraid that this move can cut Mac's sales a little bit.One more thing about MacBook's price and environmental care. 2799 USD needed for the notebook include spends on ripping some detrimental materials. This is especially important for Apple because earlier, at the beginning of October '08, they had problems with some malicious substances in Mac Pro. Now Apple confirms that the upcoming 17" MacBook Pro has no mercury and arsenic in different parts of its display. Together with battery care MacBook Pro is a "green" gadget then.

Motorized Pro-Motion keyboard

Computer experience is a truly hazardous thing to human's health in long-term outlook. No need to name all the harm day-to-day hours at computer can do. It comes from practically every gear whether it is a monitor, or a keyboard and even system units can get on nerves with too loud sound or even smell sometimes. However, a probable solution to cure RSI and CTS we normally get from our keyboards have already arrived. RSI and CTS are medical terms for Repetitive Strain Injury and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Overall they mean that wrists are harmed by computer work and there hardly is a cure except for giving up PC work maybe. This is much easier to prevent this sort of things rather then to cope with as they occur, so Smartfish Technologies made their own user-friendly keyboard. It is called the Pro-Motion keyboard.Researches from Smartfish Technologies decided to fit a keyboard with motors, which may sound funny. But the Pro-Motion keyboard should be taken seriously and there is nothing similar to compare it with, so Smartfish Technologies are plausibly opening a new branch in keyboard evolution. Pro-Motion keyboard is able adjust itself basing on personal particularities each person has. Doing a small study, Pro-Motion keyboard can move up, down, change the angle and so on. Motors are being operated by a Dynamic Positioning Controller. It requires installing some software and that's about it. All the advantage of having HSS' (Hospital for Special Surgery) experience in work is set up. Such a way, Smartfish Technologies say, it eliminates any risk of getting RSI or CTS as time passes.Pro-Motion keyboard is compatible with both: Mac and PC. Gadget is connected via a USB port and can also download software upgrades from the Internet. Smartfish Technologies provides the whole product support and gives five year warranty. All for about 130 USD and Pro-Motion keyboard is already available.Announced user-friendly abilities are not yet tested by a neutral lab, but there seem to be no doubts in their success. And also, we haven't mentioned stylish design of the aluminum finished body. The thing is though, a lot of computer work is done in offices but employers are not going to provide staff with Pro-Motion keyboards, so bring yours.

Cellular broadband "Vizit" photo frame from Isabella Products

Cellular broadband is a great thing especially with its 3G capabilities. It has very nice speed for both downloading and uploading content, wide coverage, even better than WiFi usually. However, having these advantages mobile networks have been serving very few digital photo frames. A brief while ago, in November '08, T-Mobile has introduced one, and there are no any other successful examples of cellular network digital photo frames coming to my mind. But we are getting one more this spring probably. Isabella Products has announced its "Vizit" photo frame with Internet connection based on cellular network and what's more, it is a 10.4 inch touchscreen with some interesting features in it.Isabella Products may have done a questionable design work. Vizit looks a bit coarse with a large holder behind, but anyway developers though of different kinds of materials and colors. Silver or gunmetal body with rosewood or teak insertions will be available. But design is moved aside by 10.4 inch touchscreen and gadget's capabilities. The screen is LCD with not yet affirmed resolution, nor are its other features. Manufacturer promises of course high resolution and vivid colors. Isabella Products notices that the main advantage if Vizit photo frame is two-way communication, fast and easy photo exchange all via mobile network, which is priced higher than WiFi. However it is Vizit's main advantage. First of all it can easily be used by grandparents or even kids, because grandparents may not have WiFi at their home but can still keep in touch with recent photos of their relatives. Second advantage – user friendly menu. Visibly, Isabelle Product made touching areas quite big and there are not much confusing buttons.Vizit photo frame will be in stores in short time. Not earlier than spring and most probably in March. MSRP for Vizit is 299 USD.

Laser LightLane eases bicyclist's life

Bicycle is the answer to several modern life issues. The most obvious one for the end-users is of course costs. Bicycles are much cheaper than cars as they are not so complicated, don't have to pay fees as they enter city centers and don't use any kinds of fuel. They are more mobile than cars or public transport as they don’t get stuck in traffic jams and are emission free. However, many citizens, who are currently using bicycles everyday, say that they will buy a car as soon as possible because they want to travel in more comfortable way and they want to feel themselves safer. The last issue is now one more step closer to its final solution. The LightLane concept provides rider with some extra space and outlines him with a virtual bike lane.Altitude Inc. designed a gadget that is attached to the bike and is equipped with a number of lasers. Lasers draw shape of the bike lane on the road. Such a way rider is now visible in the dark and drivers will probably not brake into his own space. Red lines on the road also look nice but how helpful are they? Laser light will probably grow dim in the lights of a vehicle or street illumination. If we dive into Highway Code, we find out that bicyclist is a participant of the road traffic, which means he can use a full lane. Why to bother with gadgets and confuse drivers in this case? Anyway, if LightLane helps to avoid accidents on the road, it will by highly appreciated. LightLane shouldn't be an expensive device, so why not to reinsure then?

ED-E robot goes from toy store to school

School is the place where most people start getting into their future hobbies, interests and other stuff that floats their boat. That's why educational programs are so important and educational results can tell a lot about the whole country. Recently a robotic enthusiast Dr. Jim Wyatt has offered his creation as a trainer for schools. Wyatt's well known ED-E robot, you could see him at CES 2009 presented by Kablamm Ltd. ED-E can be a great educational aid at physics and mathematics classes. ED-E robot is also available for individuals and will be a great fun for kids and their parents. There is a number of reasons why ED-E was promoted from, basically, a toy to educational equipment. First of all, it will attract positive attention of 100 percents of students. As a toy, ED-E can do a lot of things like brake dancing, balancing on one leg, hopping, etc. do complex moves overall. The educational part of all this process consists in programming ED-E's 17 servo motors to perform any of that on a given task or on student's free will. Such a way kids can learn basic mechanics, mathematics and three-dimensional programming. The best of all I think is that they will see the result immediately with no scholasticism students have to deal with most of time. However I can hardly imagine how ED-E will fit in educational programs and how lectures with the robot will be held, but I find it an exceptionally good idea. A standard ED-E is sold to individuals for 400 quid, but the package for schools will be a little bit expensive. An additional programming tool will add 28 quid more to robot's price.

Slingbox

The Slingbox TV signal sender / media streamer is the most impressive gadget I have had the pleasure of stumbling across in 2008, having marvelled at the way such a simple device could reduce arguments over who's turn it was to choose the channel in a TV-obssessed family household.
The Slingbox allows you to stream TV programs directly to an internet connected PC using your broadband connection. The streamed TV signal is delivered by connecting the Slingbox directly to your TV, satellite receiver or cable box. This sounds far too simple to be true, but it genuinely is. The Slingbox is a dream to setup and use, I’ve even heard rumors that my wife was able to configure our device in my absence, but I’m not convinced she didn’t call a ‘techi friend’ to do this for her! It is also an incredibly reliable device for this type of media streaming and can even send freeview TV signals without the need for direct connectivity to a TV. Although it's a superb innovation which delivers clean, seamless images from your TV to PC straight across your broadband connection, the Slingbox does however come with only one minor flaw. It would be even more impressive if 'version two' came with one-to-many connectivity. (The fancier Slingbox Pro does allows users to watch up to four channels at once.)
Comment:
It is the best technologies I have come across in 2008. because it can
be use as double purpose it can straight across your TV to PC.
